c13 Can I do it myself and other ?s

Thinking very much of going with a chapter 13. I have a couple ?s 1) Can I file it myself to save the 2k (i.e How hard is it to do) 2) Are there non-profit lawyers who will do it or a cheaper. and finally- I am trying to keep my house. When a court looks at my mortgage and the added expense of the chapter 13 ( missed mortgage payments- credit cards etc) I will not show enough income to be able to afford it all. Will they not allow me to even file because of this? I am in the works of lining up a 2nd job to beable to pull this off but all this must happen fast. My mortgage company expects me to have 5.5 k in 2 weeks after they told me I would only need 2k.

There may be disagreement on this board on this issue, but honestly, unless someone has some background in bankruptcy, no layperson should do a chapter 13 on their own (but I am sure there are people that have). There are to many issues, and even many so-called BK Lawyers screw-up chapter 13's. Also, at least half of your attorney's fees get paid through the chapter 13, you are only out of pocket about the same amount as you would pay for a chapter 7.

At the very least, you should at least consult with an attorney to see if you would even be eligible for a 13.
