statute of limitations on IRS debts?

I have heard that the IRS is not supposed to collect tax debts over 10 years old from the date the form was filed. Is there any truth to this? I have debts 8 and 9 years old and I am wondering if I can just sit them out as an alternative to bankruptcy. I have nothing to attach a lein to.

The IRS is not limited by any statue of limitations and IRS debt cannot be cleared by filing bankruptcy. They will eventually get their money one way or another.
