I know it's six years, but nissans last, i got the extended warranty, and I love this truck, as much as you can love a "thing"...can't wait to hit the beach and the trails this year...

Glad for you that you found a car you love! Now just do everything possible to make sure that you keep up on the payments and even pay ahead if there's no penalty to do so to decrease the interest hit. 9.59% isn't great, but better than it could have been. I imagine your auto insurance will increase quite a bit from whatever it is now, so be sure to take that into account in your post-bk budget as well. Enjoy the new car - stay safe!

Ahhh, the xterra's are not that bad, they are a V6 after all. That's not too bad a deal. I have hard time recommending anyone take a car loan with an interest rate over 7.9%, but when you need a car, you need a car. But good job, nonetheless.

Ok, fair enough. I didn't actually look up the numbers. I kinda figured since it was a V6 and a lighter weight SUV, it had a tad better mileage. When you need a large vehicle (and some people do), it is hard to find one with good gas mileage, your choices are either and SUV (which, as you pointed out, average about 16mpg, as a group, in the city), or minivans, which average 18mpg, as a group, in the city.

In the SUV class, the only vehicles that get a combined 25MPG or better, are the Hyrbrids, and Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV 4, and you'll notice, those are all small SUV's. No minivans have a combined 25MPG or better. The only other options in the Quasi wagon style car are the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe, which both get a combined 25MPG or better.

An xterra is neither an entry level , nor an economical SUV. It is more of a luxury SUV.

well, i was able to save some money, pay down the loan so my payment isn't that high, only 40 bucks more a month than the last car and this is what I want. I figure I go to work day in and day out, and I deserve something I want. My bk was due mainly to my divorce/ex and that's all behind me....

as far as mileage, i have been settling with eco-cars since i got out of college, i wanted to treat myself.....

Yes, thats one true aspect of owning an suv. In the event of an accident, your suv vs. a compact, the compact will suffer severe body damage vs the suv. So smaller cars have higher collision insurance rates for that reason alone.

also what also made me go with an suv, is an accident that occured in fayettlevill nc last month. An suv ran over a honda accord smashing the two occupants instantly. A mother and her young infant son. They were just sitting at a red light minding their own business. I figure, more armor between me and the idiots is worth a little more money per month, ain't it?

Why someone believes that buying an asset the drops like a rock in value, such as a house trailer or car, is a great event is unbelievable.
Cars are only transportation and depreciate in value, so why put your hard earned money is such an asset is a path to financial suscide. For your financial freedom keep your assets in things that my increase in value such as a single family home an the stock market.
Just my view on things.

well it's all in what you want.

i currently rent an apartment having sold my far away home. I rent cheaply but this is transitional. I like a reliable fun car, and the xterra is just that. It gets me places where I will enjoy life. Getting from point a to b is not it's only function. The journey is also part of it's function. Like nissan advertises:

"enjoy the ride!".

Lots of people are against buying a new car anytime especially right out of bk, but my take is this:

a) i need a reliable car
b) i WANT and CAN AFFORD a new SUV.
c) i have nothing else in my life materialistically that I enjoy.
d) this vehicle will get me to the sands of the cape hatteras seashore where I have my pick of 60 miles of beach to fish and frolic from/on leading to worryfree bliss....and make priceless memories with my love and my kids.
e) this will rebuild my credit so I can get a mortage in a year or 3...

SO as you see, to me, even though it is a depreciating asset, eventually it won't be. Once it's paid off. And I need transportation. And I love it!!! I plan on keeping this thing for at least the next 10 years. It's a nissan and built for that. Plus it's 4x4....

As far as some who say buy used save money, do you really? What happens if you buy used, but the engine blows, or the transmission? Nah, I can afford a new vehicle and pay enough freaking taxes to this capitalistic counrty, so I deserve it...
