Credit unions more willing than banks?

Do credit unions tend to be more or less willing to extend credit to subprime borrowers? We have been "assured" by a special finance person that he will have no problem financing us with his Fresh Start program people, but we were planning to apply with our credit union (not included in our BK, and who our pay is directly deposited into....).

Is there any point even trying the CU? Or should we try them first?

We spoke to our local credit union and they won't touch us until 2 years out of discharge. I would call around and see what the credit unions "rules" are. For us, our CU is stricter....so we wait.

We took out a secured loan with our new CU. The loan officer said that once we pay this off (and show other positive trade lines) they would be more likely to offer other lines/loans.

We were able to get a Visa with a $1000 limit right after of discharge from our credit union.

Three months after our discharge, we went back to the credit union for a private student loan for my wife (the Federal Stafford loans were not enough) and they said yes....at 5% interest and no repayment until 6 months after graduation.

I guess it depends on the credit union.
