Pre Approved offers in the mail

    Hello all,

I have been receiving pre approved offers lately from HSBC for Visa and Mastercard, the first couple had annual fees and the latest have no annual fee. These offers state that you will receive a limit of at least $300 but, up to $2500. I have also been receiving pre approvals from Credit One for a line of $500 up to $2000.

    My questions are..

    1) I included HSBC (Household Bank) in my BK so, do I really have a shot at these cards?? anyone have this experience???

    2) My spouse received a pre approved offer from Direct Merchants Bank Discover (HSBC) and recieved a $1500 limit, she did not BK on HSBC. I would like this card but, I did not recieve a pre approval offer for it. Does anyone know much about this card??

    3) Anybody on the thread have any info on Credit One?

    Thank you!

It's hard to say, you don't provide much information. When was your bk discharge? The HSBC crads, if approved, will LIKELY give you the standard $300 cl so you'll have to build from there. A lot of your post-bk experiences will depend on your previous history and performance, that may be why DW got the Discover card with decent limit and you didn't.

But are you 'in a hurry' to get new credit while just fresh out of bk? Are you ready to handle new credit yet...read the sticky folders to learn how others have managed - the best rebuilding plans take time and discipline. I wouldn't go after new credit until you've cleaned up your cr reports and done some score improvement that way...you might see better pre-approved offers coming if you did.

      POORME,

Thanks for the reply. I have had credit for over 10 years and it was very good with good limits at one point, BK was about 2 years ago. I have had a Cap One and Hooters card for about a year now but, my credit score is just sitting so, I would like to open 1 or 2 more cards to increase my overall available credit and show some more positive trade lines against to counter the amount of bad ones from the BK.

      Thanks.

A fair number of people seem to have good luck with the Juniper cards and Washington Mutual (old Providian). Also, a couple of store cards, such as Home Depot, Lowes, Macy's, or Walmart might be worth trying. Good Luck!

Does Macy's grant credit to post bk candidates?
