    Before discharge???

Okay - I originally filed a chapter 13 and am in the process of converting it because I sold my house for payoff to get out from under the house note. I am recently divorced and most of my debt was medical bills - and had 2000 or so on credit cards that I used to supplement my income while awaiting child support order. My question is - I want to start building credit as soon as possible - do I have to wait for my discharge to apply for a credit card??

Also two weeks after I filed to convert I had another hospital stay of 6 days, my attorney says that nothing after filing date can be added to a chapter 7 - is this true??

Things can only be added post BK if an amendment is requested. You can start rebuilding credit whenever you want. But you'll most likely be denied credit until your BK has been discharged. And even when your BK is discharged, obtaining credit can still be a very, very difficult thing to accomplish! Once your BK has been discharged, consider getting a secured loan through your bank or credit union, as a way of rebuilding your credit. There are also a few good secured credit card companies available too. but do you homework before dealing with any of them! Most of these CC lenders require you to make a minimum deposit first.

    Good Luck!

In most states yes, (I'm not personally familiar with your state's BK laws) most attorneys dislike doing this because of all the formalities/time/money involved. Most individuals, simply write letters to the creditors and Credit Bureaus directly requesting that the update thier credit reports to reflect a "Zero" balance and BK 7.

        Good Luck!
