how long do I need to wait?

I was discharged on 6/2/08 and I have no desire to get a credit card but I am in need of getting new cable service, especially with the upcoming tv switch in February. I want to get the Uverse with at&t which is whom I already have my home phone/dsl with but they will have to check my credit in order for me to get it. Is it to soon to have my credit checked? I am also assuming that I will probably get denied but I will worry about that when it happens.

If your an existing customer, maybe they won't check credit. You just 'add' it to your existing service.
Worst case, they will want a deposit or a 'card' . Use your Debit card.
If you don't absolutely need it, I'd wait out the 90 days.

I am an existing customer but they told me that I will have to get a credit check to get this cable service. I don't need it right now, I am just getting ready for February so I can wait out the 90 days.

I really don't know anything about the switch to digital signal from analog other than what I have heard on the radio and TV. Is it possible to get a converter box and be able to get the service you need? There is a program where you can get a coupon that will help purchase the box. Here is a link to that and then the parent page for all the FAQs.

This third link is to an article that is on Consumer Advocate Clark Howard's website:

The credit check can be either to just see if you have defaulted with other cable/satellite tv services or a garden variety credit check, where if anything they will just ask you for a security deposit. Bottom line is they want your business.
