Well this is wild! CC approval while in BK

Got a new checking account at a different bank the last week of June on advice of attorney. Did NOT apply for a credit card. Just needed a place where my health insurance auto debit could come out safely and we could pay our bills, without also owing anything there.

    Filed BK Ch7 July 9.

TODAY, my husband gets a call from the new bank and says we have already been approved for a credit card at like 1.5% interest and they will go ahead and send it out today!!!!

He didn't know what to do - was so surprised - told her he'd have to think about it since we just paid off the last of our credit cards (did not mention BK).

But shouldn't they have known about our BK? Would it have been on a Credit Report by now?

Is this something we could even do or is it against the law in some way? NOT to use it of course, at least not prior to discharge - but would it be ok to accept it - in the hope that it might survive?

Sure is't not a preapproved offer, subject to credit check?? And in order for them to offer the real deal, they would need your or your DH's authorization to run your credit. And your credit may not show the Bk right now, since it has only been a few weeks.

You're not supposed to obtain new credit without your trustees approval.

And @ 1.5%, I want that card! Which bank is that?

It may be one of those - he said they were gonna send the card, but he may have misunderstood.

We have tons of available credit left unused (probably will be closed due to the BK though). We always paid our bills and they all just kept raising our limits without our asking them to, so we had a good credt rating - don't know how bad it is now.

You could pull your scores just to see what they are right now,
if the bk is on there or not. Mine have gone up 50 points from the start of BK, just because of the 0iib accounts, and me disputing stuff. So I am in the real low 600's, which is better than the 560's I was back in April.
