    Discover requesting additional information

    Hi guys!
I applied for a discover card a few days ago, and today I just got an email from the new accounts dept. requesting additional information from me and they also gave me a number to call. What additional infomation would they need? Also does this mean that I got the card? If so that's exciting, I'm really trying to build my credit back up

I got the same info. I called the number and they more or less told me that I did not get the discover card but I did apply for a partner card through hsbc bank. It is a Discover rewards platinum card with the Discover logo etc. and it reports. good luck!!

I do believe that Discover is Anti-BK.

You almost always do not get a phone call if you are approved for a credit card - you get the credit card in the mail with a notification to call the 800 number on there that you received the card. What they are going to do is offer you something else since you were probably denied. Could be another kind of card, could be a magazine subscription. Sorta like what you would get if you were speaking with a customer rep on the phone and they give you their "offer of the day." Discover, as BassBoy states, is not BK friendly.

I would never give out info in response to an email or even a phone number in an email. Too easy to fake and could be phishing - may not be Discover at all.

I recently got a Visa through WAMU and they sent me a letter asking me to call in and verify information. I figured, what the heck, and did so. They asked me some basic questions, I didn't have to provide much personal info (just address, phone #, etc) and lo and behold they approved me on the phone for a $2K credit limit!

Double check the email and the headers to ensure that it's legit (coming from discover versus some random email address), and if all looks OK, go ahead and call the number. Just don't provide them with any personal info. They gave me a code, and when I provided that to them, they were able to pull up my application and had all the info there.

              Good luck.

                    You are welcome.

I have gotten so many phishing emails and they always like to say they need more info or you have to "verify" some info. Steer clear!

ALWAYs go to the actual site (not from the link in the email) and usually you will see - it probably was not the bank or company it said it was.

Good for you - you don't need to add identity theft to your list of problems!

I find it more than coincidental that you received an email inquiry around the same time you applied. Did you by any chance provide an email address on your application? If you did, you may want to advise Discover what occurred since it is possible the have an internal ring going on as to identity theft. That is very unusual to apply for a card and then just a short while later get hit with an email from the same place.

No legit place will call you or email you after an application for credit. They will contact you via regular US mail if you have been denied or if you are approved you will get the card with informatoin and instructions, or they will answer questions for you if you call them about your application.

While Im for protecting your identity, it is not always phishing. HSBC has a licensed discover network card. Discover sent my info to them when they denied me. Discover itself is not bk friendly at all, but we all know HSBC/Orchard is. It is a partner card. The card has a discover logo, is accepted anywhere discover is and has rewards as well. It came with a decent limit $900 and no fee. It does report
