    Credit Report Dispute

I have one item on my Credit Report that says "Charged Off" and few others that say "Petition for CH 7 BK". I read the thread regarding a Dispute, but I'm unsure of who I need to send a letter to regarding these listed on my credit report. Do I send a letter to the Credit Card Company or the Credit Bereau? I only ran one credit report through experian only.

Start by disputing the debt with each of the credit bureaus that are not showing the debt as IIB (included in bankruptcy) or some other indication the debt is wiped out by Ch 7 first. The balance should be zero. Give the credit bureaus 30 days to correct the designation.

If that doesn't work or the credit bureau says that the creditor confirms the debt is listed accurately, move on to the creditor and dispute it with them by doing the same thing.

It's best to do these in writing and send the letters registered return receipt. That way you have a confirmed paper trail in case you can't get the debt designations changed to what they should be.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Do I need to send these letters to all three credit bureaus or just experian? I only ran the credit report with experian today. I should request for a "return receipt" on the letter? Sorry, this is my first time to ever dispute anything on a credit report.

If the account was charged off before BK, then they are reporting it correctly. And when you send the dispute make sure to send it CMRR.

We filed in April 2008 and it says "account charged off/never late. $xxxx written off. $xxxx pas due as of Apr 2008". We quit paying our credit cards when we filed our paperwork with the attorney. So how could they charge it off the month that we filed?

Before you filed, was the account late? Did you get anything saying it was being charged off or sent to collections?

There may have been a payment due in mid April that we didn't pay and our BK paperwork was filed in April. I never got any letters from USAA saying the account would be charged off or sent to collections.
