maybe you all can help me, i got a call from hsbc today, stating that they were checking with me because i have a fraud alert on my credit report, they sadi that they were making sure that i had in fact applied for a orchard bank card. has anybody had that happen to them before, and if so does that mean that I am approved??? I had they fraud alert state that a company needs to call before they open any new accounts

Did you apply for an account with Orchard? If not, that means someone else did and you need to shut that down before it starts.

Or if you actually had a fraud alert on your credit report, the creditors want to speak to you direct to make sure all is kosher.

Yes, it is normal. My husband had and still has a fraud alert and every single time he applies for anything, he gets a phone call.

That is exactly correct - when you place the fraud alert they are suppose to call you to make sure it is YOU - just like cool33097 says.

It means they received your application and want to check your credit to see whether or not to extend approval. They will notify you whether or not you are approved.
