equifax still reporting a collection as active!!!

Hi!

I filed bk ch7 in april 2006. Discharged august 22 2006. I listed my ex-wife's apartment complex as a possible creditor per the advice of my bk attorney. I had co-signed a lease for her- never do that again. Anyhow, she broke the lease and they initiated a collection on me right after my discharge. Equifax lists the collection and the other 2 bureaus do not. How do I get this off my equifax credit report? My attorney told me last year when it last came up that i was to mail the bureau, creditor and the collection agency the bk paperwork and a letter telling them it was discharged. I am about to do this now since I am getting a mortgage and this keeps coming up.

Will they have to remove this entry even though the debt did not surface until after my discharge? I had a feeling my ex would screw me and she did. As I said above, I DID list the apartment complex as a creditr but did not know the amount at the time since it did not exist....

Send Equifax a letter disputing what you post above along with copies of your creditor matrix showing the creditor and a copy of your discharge. Send certified mail, return receipt requested. That should do it and you will hear back from Equifax.
