    Huge FICO Decrease Question

    Happy New Year!!

I just have a question I'm hoping you can answer.

I went to myfico.com and purchased my Equifax score along with my credit report. I found that most things on my report were incorrect, so disputed all of those items. Then yesterday I get a notice from the website saying there was a change to my score. I went to look and found my score has gone down 19 points, but the only change on my report is all the disputes. Why would disputes decrease my score like that?? Is this a permanent reduction or will it go back up after disputes are resolved?

I'm just very concerned because I should be about a week from discharge and am trying to make sure my credit report is cleaned up so I can start rebuilding.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this.

As I understand it, having disputes in progress makes your score unpredictable, because some things may not be counted in it. (Like when I've disputed things, some are put in a non-rated status.)

Some things may have a short term negative impact-such as getting rid of an old bad tradeline if it was your oldest trade line. Something like that would be good long term, as you add positive history.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
