one month past discharge...approved for Household Platinum

My discharge was about a month ago and I hadn't yet applied for any new credit. I received my first pre-approval notice in the mail the other day. It was for the Household Platinum Mastercard--0% interest to December 2006, $12.9% thereafter. $39 annual fee. Because I was current on all my credit lines before filing, my scores are all in the mid to upper 600s a month out of BK7.

That said, I expected that my first post BK card would be something with really high fees and a high APR. I didn't think I would need to get a secured card, but I anticipated going through the whole rebuilding card exercise. I thought this would have to be a mistake. A Platinum card right out of BK? a reasonable APR? It had to be a joke.

Initially I was going to toss it in the trash because I had read about others getting pre-approval mailings and then rejected because of the BK. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was probably worth the few points on my credit reports for the inquiry on the off chance that they give me the card because I certainly wasn't going to get any better offers. If they rejected me, I'd know to not apply for these types of cards again.

So I go online, enter the code from their mailing and all of my other info. sixty seconds later....APPROVED! I was shocked, but very happy.

The credit limit is $500, but I plan to utilize the card to pay bills and then pay off the card every month, so I expect that limit will go up over time. Gotta start somewhere.

While I'm not going to be carrying any balances or getting into the mess I was in before, I'm greatly relieved that I have a good foot up on rebuilding my credit and getting a second chance.

    great to hear! very nice.

remember to never ever allow the balance to get over 49% of the total, which means finance charges and fees. 30% max use is recommended.

Of course. I plan to keep it right in the desirable range of utilization.

I'm lucky to have the card at all, lol. This little piece of plastic is going to help my credit, no way I'll let it bring me back down!

Well, like it's said..They look at the "Overall" score andnot just the BK...

Me? I'd be lucky to get a secured card..I think I finally went below 500 on fico, but the funny thing? when I leave, my "Secret Weapon" will have the "Skip tracers" scratching their heads on how I suddenly became "Invisable"

        Can't wait!!!

Household Bank seems to be a fairly forgiving credit card company. It's the only credit card that I can still use, and I make sure that I don't charge anything on it except gasoline, so I am always able to pay it off at the end of each monthly billing cycle. It's just nice to be able to fill up my gas tank at the pump instead of having to walk inside and put down cash to fill up, and then have to walk back into the store to get my change back.

I've heard from two other people who have even worse credit than me, and they also have credit cards from Household Bank.

"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

              Cali,

I just got discharged 12/06/05 and a week ago I got approved for Household bank v/c with a credit line of $1500. Like you I wanted to see if I was going to be approvel by answering the offer online and boom! I got approved online just like that. I guess Household bank is pretty forgiving. Thanks for giving me a second chance is all I can say.

                nice!

remember that calling some of these numbers migh tbe a activation line and once ativated you will get charged the fees with no way out at all. this could lead, if you try to fight it, to a negative on your credit report again after y ou just bk'ed everything. be cautious. dont call the number given. get the main number for the company and call them without giving your info at first.

I just got a acceptance certificate too from Platinum household mastercard
BUT too bad I have already applied on orchard bank site .. with out this cert # becAuse this one says NO ,app fees, savings checking... no rate given though .. just says sign me up..
Question since I have already been accepted waiting on card with what the fees and rate is... what happens if and after I apply for this one.. It does SAY NOT for existing users ... What if this one is better terms? than the one I just got approved for? Is there A chance It could go through and have two accts? which would be good then cause I would not have to consider aspire or any of those with all extra associated fees ..this one seemed to be the lowest fees...

you can apply for whatever you want. just make sure you dont go overboard. too many and it will hurt your credit. but these two wont hurt anything much at all. if you do get both it will only help if you pay on time.

who knows what will happen. only they do.

Too many inquires or cards.. I am just striving for two cards from what I ahave been reading to refiance you need at least two credit lines three preferred.. I have been running our credit but seem to be getting denied.. except for this one credit card.. unless we wanted to pay all other fees in addition which right now I am not interested in..My husband has applied 5 times for a car loan denied , I told him I give up... they all want like 1000.00 down . if I had that I would buy outright...

inquiries adn cards but im talking here about inquiries. everytime you run your credit it takes a point or so away from your score. too many times and they see it as bad.

yes 3 credit lines of visa/mc or car loans are the best toward getting a mortage. you have to improve your scores to get better car loans. $1000 down depending on all thte other details might not be that bad. i dont know.

try to get those 3 lines of credit to build your scores.
