    Credit Bureaus merging files!??....

I am getting married next year, and when I do I will have the same name as my future sister in law...

I know credit bureaus will merge my credit file and have my name listed as it is now as well as my name listed then, but how much of a chance would there be that my bankruptcy or late items show up on HER report?!?

The bankruptcy will be closed by that point and listed under "my name now" not "my name then"... so since she always will be "my name then" until she gets married is there any chance of that all crossing to her report when our names become the same?

I hope I explained that well enough...

Lamans terms- How often do credit reports get messed up if somebody has the same name? We have different middle names, and we have a 10 year age difference...

Not if last name is the only thing you have in common. The more similar the info is, the better chance of that happening. So if you are Mary Jones and live in the same house with Marie Jones, it wouldn't be shocking to happen...
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

well we will have the same name...

We both are Elizabeth's, and when I marry, I will have her last name too...

different age, different middle name, different address...

As far as my bankruptcy it was done under my current name, not the one I will be the same as hers...

probably wont happen at all. names are different, socials are different. addresses are different.

so many people have the same names. if it happened that often then everything would be a mess. it isnt.

when you file for any credit in the future make sure you use a name that isnt like hers for your credit applications. that is what is reported and matched along with social. i dont see it happening though.

you can apply for credit however you wish. always use a name that is different then hers if you are worried.

            BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!

Start using your middle name, the WHOLE NAME...not just the initial. My hubby and his father have the same first and last name, but different middle names....well his dad is a dork, and refuses to use his middle name. So it had been a 12 YEAR headache!!!!!

The addresses are mixed up...his father has a Discover card, $10,000 limit and it showed up on my hubby's.....Nicor the natural gas company had an account on my hubby's. We have electric everything so we NEVER used gas....but it was on there with my F-I-L address..go figure!! We have had our car loan on my F-I-L report, I don't understand the credit companies are whacked!!!

I wish that they BOTH used their middle names since they were born. When I met my hubby I told him to used it and he has for the last 12 years!!! It has helped a little.

Now get this...my step M-I-L, (Judy) and I (Jessica) get things mixed up.....HELLO two different names?? But they go by the "J" My step M-I-L address is on my credit report WHY?? I get mail for her and everything Oh we still get my F-I-l too....I have no idea why...I have a dispute in to them now!

It's a huge F*&$ing headache. I hate it...I wish I could change my name back to my maiden name

Good luck and MONITOR your reports!!!!

When I get married maybe I will use Liz MYNEWLASTNAME instead of Elizabeth...

But if I filed bankruptcy under Elizabeth A#$% and then become Elizabeth G#%^#$^$^ like her... do you see my old accounts from Elizabeth A#$$ going on her file in any way.

Or would it just be any new accounts that I opened as Elizabeth G@%$^#%%...?!?

i think its too hard to tell. you pretty much need the same social to be honest. and with a different address and social its far less likey.

think of it this way, do you see any of hers showing up on yours?

no, because we don't have the same last name YET, thats why I keep asking again...

Everyone's responses seem to think we already have the same last name... but I have all my credit under my name now and she has all of her credit on her name now, but in 6 months we will have the same name, and just wondered if all of our stuff will merge...

she will pick up my bankrupcty and old accounts and I could pick up her accounts... thats what I am afraid of...

It is not an issue at all now, since we don't have the same name YET>..

ok but the information still holds true.

imagine if this happened often? think about how many people have the same names to the T.

just dont ask her to move in with you so you dont have the same address.

also, if it ever does happen tell her you have no clue who it is. and that you heard they do that now and then, etc.

nothing to worry about imo. and nothing you can do but use your full name with your middle name to help avoid it. what else can you do anyways, right?

It was most likely occur with new accounts, or old accounts that ongoing activity. If you get everything cleaned up after the BK, and before you get married, I would think the odds are better for you. Your old creditors won't have a reason to continually update/report.

Acually I would be real careful. My Father has the same last name, but diffrent middle name, and first name. He has a diffrent adress, always did. On my credit report his ssn comes up as a varation of mine, and same on his. I have to fax documentation paperwork to the credit berus everytime I want to talk to them. They will not remove it because they said that my father does not exist, so basically I am 1 person with 2 ssn numbers. The weird thing is that after I disputed all my stuff off of his report, it is clean. Transunion won't even pull up the report on line because they say he does not exist, I have faxed them copies of his ss card, but they find it hard to believe that a 53 year old man has never has any credit. My report on the other hand has bankrupcy and all kinds of other stuff. They told my this happened because a creditor that did not have my ssn went to the cra and went by last name then found the closest match and pinned it on him, it did not matter the first middle name, adress, or dob.
Same thing happened to my husband. Things were on his report from his father, same last name but diffrent first name, diffrent adress, but they still do it. And trust me it is a pain to have these removed.
