Do I really need to charge something?

Well, I just got my first approval since my discharge. I know that crown jewelers approves everyone, but it's a start. I also applied for Target and got the "further processing" message with no application number, so I expect to be rejected. My score also dropped 2 points because of the Target inquiry. My next step will be Orchard.

Do I really need to charge something to raise my FICO, or is it enough to have those accounts listed in my credit profile?

Just having open revolving credit lines is fine, you don't need to use them. I got the 'further processing' thing with capital one, and I was approved for my 3rd card in the past month since my discharge.

I thought I read somewhere on here that Crown will not report unless something is ordered...so I ordered the cheapest but cutest ring I could find for the money and sent them the down payment today hoping that it will make a diffference. Experian is showing "not enough revolving credit lines established" or some such thing since my discharge and closure and my reports are still not accurate and my scores still low. Soooo, I am playing the waiting game before I do anything else in terms of applying for credit. Anyway, I could be wrong about Crown...I have read so much on here that no doubt my senility kicked in at some point or another. Anyone else with information?

I also have a student loan with Sallie Mae that I had not paid on after filing and signed up to have that automatically debited from my account. The lady at Sallie Mae said that by doing that, after my first payment clears, they will wipe out any past dues and show me as current. We shall see. I have my fingers crossed.

I figure it took me awhile to get into this mess. It will take a long time to get me out.

I applied for the crown jewelers thing, but all their crap is such garbage and a huge ripoff. I'd rather pay the annual fees on these low limit credit cards.
