zero interest on balance transfer credit cards

I was discharged in a chapter 7 in July 2005 and have not applied for any credit cards, even though I get offers for them in the mail often.

I just received a credit card offer from MBNA for zero interest on a balance transfer or use their cash advance checks until April 2007. I have a loan I would like to transfer to pay off, but I do not want to get a hit on my credit score if I get turned down.

Has anyone been successful in actually getting an offer like this, even though they were just discharged less than a year ago? If so, what was your credit limit? Thanks!

If you transfer it you won't really be paying it off. You'll be playing the debt shell game.

Honestly, after messing with CC's for years, I'd take a fixed term pay-off any day. There's a set date for light at the end of the tunnel. If you transfer the principal balance to a CC, your payments will be smaller and it'll take longer to pay off.

You're counting on getting it paid within the Zero interest rate time frame, but we all know how that works from personal experience. Something always comes up that you can't for whatever reason pay more on the CC that month. Next thing you know a year's gone by, and you still owe the balance transfer. Maybe you've charged a thing or 2 along the way as well.

Have you checked your Credit Reports. Do you know whether or not any issues need to be straightened up there?? Is everything being accurately reported?? If you haven't addressed your Credit Reports, that would be a good place to start before applying for credit anywhere.

I think MBNA, Citicard, Discover, etc. are the 'prime' banks. I don't think they look kindly on recent bankruptcies, but I have no personal experience there.
