Negative Reporting on Credit Report~File Date or Discharge Date

Curious... I've read that negative bankruptcy information can stay on your credit report from 7 to 10 years. I also read somewhere that they use the file date of the bankruptcy as opposed to the dismissal date. It would be nice but seems too good to be true. Does anyone know. Thanks.

It is true, but 4-6 mos. makes little difference, filing to discharge is usually within that time frame.

Thanks for your reply. I did find a website last night that said if it was a Chapter 13 they do use the date that you filed (36 month plan would be 4 more years) as opposed to Chapter 7 its 10 years from the date (but they get discharge quicker of course). At least you get to count the three years they leave you practically penniless on the Payment Plan. It was a rough 3 years. Now I see why only 1 in 5 of all Chapter 13's are completed sucessfully.
