    Crazy Question but curious

If someone is an Authorized User and files BK, is the primary card holder affected ? What if the credit card was closed before filing with a zero balance?

Depends if they were added to the account or if an additional card was requested for them without their S.S.#. Seriously.

I saw that but it's NOT what I was asking. I was asking if I was an authorized user on someone else's account and I file BK, will THEY be affected, not the other way around.

An authorized user has no legal responsibility for the debt on a shared credit card, even debt the authorized user charged there.

The only exception - if the authorized user is married to the card owner and the debt is charged while the two were married and living in a community property state. Then whoever walks out on who leaves the one left behind holding the entire debt owed.

Even without filing bk, any authorized user can walk away from cc debt on a shared card and dump it all on the card's owner.

Ok, but if I file BK and was an authorized user on someone else's card, can the BK show on them?

Think this one out as it is quite clear...Example - MajorMike is an authorized user on GeneralJim's Walmart Card. The card is under GeneralJim's name and GeneralJim is fully responsible for the bill's payment. MajorMike files BK including all his accounts but GeneralJim's Walmart card is not part of the bankruptcy nor should it be. MajorMike's bankruptcy will not show up on GeneralJim's Walmart account on his credit reports.

If the situation were reversed and GeneralJim filed BK and included his Walmart Card, MajorMike would have a problem as being an authorized user...the BK information would show up on MajorMike's credit report.

Authorized users benefit from the good credit of the person owning the account and adding them on as an authorized user. You just have to be sure you are definately an authorized user and not put on as a co-signer or joint owner of the account, and also that the account owner continues to have good credit!
