Awesome budget brag of the day...

So I'm 16 weeks pregnant and pants are starting to get uncomfortable. Maternity pants can cost $30 or more (usually more) from the store. My solution?? I'm handy with a sewing machine, so I went to Hancock Fabrics and bought a couple maternity panels ($5 a piece). I had a few pairs of pants from pre-DS that fit really great in the legs but were just too uncomfortable in the waist to wear for like 2 years now. They are classic jean design and look brand new.. I cut the fronts open and sewed in the panels.

    Total cost: $10
Total gain: two uber comfy and cute pairs of pants that have gained new life.. They look just as professional and commercial as the in-store $30-50 product.

Yay! Thank you. I can't wait to show my mom. She tried for years to teach me to crochet, at least I can pull this off.

You might also check to see if there are any consignment shops that have a maternity section and the thrift stores definitely do. I can't believe how great the stuff is in there. It's more fun to shop there and get a bargain than going to the mall. Plenty of brand new and nearly new clothing and household items.

By all means hit Goodwill and the other thrift stores. I haven't been in a name brand department store in ages.

You are a very good example to this forum. Mrs. right above me, I am also proud of. I don't tell her that as it could 'spoil' her. But she proudly said to me, she purchased a whatever with a coupon and found that an instore coupon was also applied and save a bunch. BTW, we cannot seem to eat out our months supply of Angel foods. Very good and too much. May cut back to $75 a month. We are both getting too fat. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

Ditto. All of DS's "new" clothes are "gently used" and purchased from children's resale shops. I love "Once upon a child." And also I trade his "gently used" clothes for store credit. I don't think I've bought new clothes at all since April.

Thank you so much. Y'all would be appalled had you known me a couple of years ago. I was a MAJOR shopaholic.

I will most definitely have to start posting there. I read in it a lot.

Yes, please! From this thread, and your "really long" one over on the 13 forum, it looks as if you could be our poster child for frugal living. I thought I was good, but I'm weird - I live in a handmade 8' x 12' cabin off the grid. Cable? Cell phones? Electricity?? Who needs 'em?

But you have real-world expenses like normal people, and you have done wonders with your budget. Keep it up!

You amaze me with that! LOL. I saw this special once about a lady that built something like that in her son's backyard, and is just saving... I think that would be really awesome.
