Here's a question, do I mention being pregant at interview or after being hired?

Wow! Congratulations, NIDII...way to take some control! I don't know about your area, but in this neck of the woods everyone always says getting an interview is as impressive as actually landing a job anywhere else. (Although as I can well attest, it turns out to be considerably less lucrative.)

I don't think I'd mention it. They're not allowed to ask, and it couldn't help influencing their decision to know you'll need to take some time off so soon.

        Keep us posted...

Yikes.. Being a manager.. You should wait until after you are hired... Give yourself time to prove yourself. Also, if you get hired try to take on more responsibility than your co-workers..Then tell them your pregnant.. You could even joke about look what happens when your in between jobs.. :o)

Is this Politically correct.. NO... Is discrimination legal No. However, you want a job.

Yep. Make yourself indispensable. Then tell them.

What I was thinking is that I don't want to mention it in the interview. I am 20 weeks pregnant, so only 20 weeks to go. I was not planning on getting laid off, but I'll need to take off at least a month after my delivery for recovery due to C-section. It's all so tricky, my boss here already knew... and it was hard enough telling him. But I don't want to cause any resentment. I can work all the way up until the day of delivery so that is not a problem. Maybe mention it after interview, during the negotiation phase??

I love reading your posts. You are always (almost!) upbeat and always have something worthwhile to contribute. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that one of these interviews turns into more!!

Do NOT mention it - until, if you wish, AFTER you have started work.

Thank you!! That's really nice to hear. I hope that in a month I will be back to my obsessively optimistic ways.

It is a tuff spot for both sides. That is why you want to try to avoid bringing attention to it. I just went through an issue where one of my workers was pregnant. I held her job( unfilled) and loaded the rest of the team up with her work. We discussed her working part time after the baby. I told her I could accommodate her request. I just asked that she please let me know if she planned on not coming back. It didn't have to be official just an FYI that she may not.. She said she would.

So.. I didn't hire anyone we got backed up and put more stress on my employees and the week she was suppose to come back she tells me she cant. So.. Managers cringe.. at the thought of dealing with pregnancy.. It then took another 2-3 weeks of interviewing. I had to apologize to my employees.. I did tell them..that like what I did for her I would also do for them if needed be.. She was a good worker too.. That makes it easier to deal with pregnancy issues.

I'm definitely a good worker... And I have to work, so there is no option of me not coming back... it's just the time I'll have to take off at all that worries me.
