    Banks

I filed back in November for my ch. 13. At the time I was living in a small town and belonged to a credit union. I have in the past 2 weeks moved to Portland, OR and was in the process of changing my banks (because my CU is only located in this small town). I've so far have gotten rejected by USBank and was wondering what should I do?

I do have two other checking accts, both with lenders that I had credit cards with and they were in the bankruptcy. I was advised by my lawyer it was probably a good idea to not put money in those accounts. I'm really limited with my options. Bank of America had my car (which I gave back to them) and I don't want to bank with them. I have also heard if I go with another credit union I could get denied because of the bk on my credit.

Any suggestions? Just keep trying different banks or go back to one of the two that I have accounts with?

I should note, that it was Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo. When I logged into both online, WM showed the credit card, but WF didn't have my credit card info like it used to.

You might be ok with WAMU because they are now "Chase" and all the accounts they open now are considered Chase accounts and not WAMU accounts. This is very recent as they have been slowing changing over to the Chase branding.

However, just note, you might want to consider another CU. Although some CU's belong to a network, if you BK on one - that does not mean another CU won't accept you.

Another option is to try a small, local bank. They tend to be less rigid than the larger chain banks like US Bank.

A question for you - is it possible you could be in ChexSystem because you had bank account overdrafts, etc. that weren't balanced out to zero before filing? This would make it much harder (but not impossible) to open a new checking/savings account no matter where you go.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Hey I never had any overdrafts on my checking accounts. I'll try another CU or a small local bank.
