When creditors are notified of the BK, are they told how much they are going to receive or do they just file a claim for the total amount you owe them and take what they can get. I hope this makes sense.

My nephew was a creditor on our BK and he was not notified of any amount; I checked the Chpt 13 site when the unsecureds started being paid and looked at the amounts...they were all different...l assumed it was because of the differences in their claim amounts.04/04/08 filed Ch. 13

The creditors submit a claim for the entire amount that you owed them on the day you filed.Comment

Creditors need to file a proof of claim, so they have to prove how much you owe them based on their paperwork. That is the amount that gets submitted. How much they get paid is a different story, it depends on the % for unsecureds in your base plan.Filed CH 13 September 17, 2007
