Chapter 7 Questions & hopefully help

I just files for chapter 7 today. Unfortunatly I am doing it all myself because I can not afford an attorney (trust me, I can't afford one).

Well anyways I filed my petition & all the schedules today.

How long does it take to get the ball rolling now that I have already files?

What are the next steps that I need to concentrate on?

If the Bankruptcy court can't contact my creditor then I have to make contact with then via certified mail to make a claim against them, correct?

I have studied my credit report from all 3 major companied. I have even made telephone contact with most of the creditors to make sure the address is correct. I also have collection letters that I had used that were not reported on my credit report. I even put creditors on their that had previous did a charge-off or sold the account just to make sure they don't come back & bite me in the ass. All these creditors were listed on my schedule F & my matrix.

Now what if more collection letters come in or if I remember a creditor by chance that isn't reported on my credit report.

Do I have to file a ammended schedule F & a new Matrix?

Does it cost more to do this?

Any advice will be good, like I said I'm doing this on my own.

You'll have to file an amendment to with the trustee. There will also be a fee involved too. You should just hold off from filing until you will comfortable that all creditors whom you owe money have had a chance to collect from you. This time frame should be based on the date that you last used the past-due credit. A good time frame to wait would be one year.

If you still forget to include a creditor, here's the good news! There's nothing worse than having a BK 7 on your report so don't lose to much sleep over this! Just write the creditor a letter explaining that you filed for BK 7. Even though they weren't listed on your schedules they'll eventually update your credit report to reflect "BK 7" "zero" balance. Don't waste anymore of the money you don't have to file an amendment.

    Good Luck!
