What is impact of being discharged, but not closed?

I am likely to be in the same situation as Minnymouth and Amislander, where I will be discharged but there will be a considerable time-lag until closed. I had a claim against the former owners of my company for non-disclosure of information that impacted the $$ I was willing to pay for "goodwill and value of on-going concern" in the purchase price. I sold out in less than 2 years to my operations manager/minor partner for cost of assets, basically, at 20% of my investment. My lawyer was hoping the former owners would settle for a few thousand before the BK filing, so we held off until last month on the filing, but I couldn't wait longer. So there is a great likelihood that I will be held in discharged-but-not-closed limbo while court tries to sort out information and may wait for cash. Which I am not sure will ever be forthcoming.

What will I be able to do or not do without being closed? I have not been able to find anything in my searches, and my lawyer just shrugs and said "shouldn't be a problem...." I will be needing a new car within the next year. This 10 year old van is held together with duct-tape and bailing wire. And I will want to sell the house in 12 to 18 months when my daughter is finished with school. Will I run into problems renting an apartment if court drags it out as with Minnymouth?

I have already found out that I can't work or volunteer as a tax preparer this season while in an active bankruptcy (local IRS program at senior center); wondering what else may be impacted that I haven't considered.

Anyone with info or links to info for me: I will lift my mug in a toast your way...(Even a "Poor-baby" will help, sigh....)
