What do I need to prove monthly expenses for the means test? I make about $7000 above the median, and pass on the means test. We have averaged about $200 or so for rmedical expenses (family of five). Do I have to prove it? This includes meds, doc visits, vision care, etc. Also, what exactly are A: childcare expenses and B: Education expenses. Two of my kids are in scouting and there are dues and fees for activites, plus soccer for my son. Where do these come in?

You don't have to prove most expenses on the means test. The test is based on set standards. As for the additional expenses for medical you should find canceled checks, or any other documents just in case you are questioned about them. You probably won't be since these are average amounts. Education is for private school tuition and that's limited to a certain amount, I think $1500 a year per child. Scouting & soccer dues have no line on the means test. They can go on the schedule J.

Childcare expenses are just that, childcare. Babysitting, daycare, etc. As far as the educational expenses our lawyer told us to put in that area what we spend on school supplies, school pictures, filed trip money, lunches, etc. divided up into a monthly cost of course. School clothing would go onto your clothing line. Unfortunately as far as the scouting and soccer fees, these would be looked upon as discretionary expenses, meaning they are not necessary for living. If you need to make sure they are budgeted in somewhere just up one of your other categories such as clothing, medical, or food a little bit to cover that cost. Our medical was $200 a month for 3 people as we do not have insurance and this is about what we spend a year on doctors, dentists, eye exams, over the counter medicine and at least 2 trips a year to the emergency room(never fails), this amount was never questioned and it was our lawyer that put it there. You usually will not have to show receipts for these but just incase should you have a medical need during your BK save the receipt."Try to save money. Someday it may be valuable again." - Anonymous
