    Anyone's lawyer help with records?

I've been reading through and had a quick question with respect to investigations and objections - does anyone have a lawyer that helped dig up all that paperwork required?

I've noticed when there is an investigation, the letter from the US Trustee, etc.,everyone seems to be doing their own paperwork and having to get their own records, etc. Anyone have a lawyer who actually did that for them or helped? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I'm just thinking ahead and want to be as prepared as possible, for WHATEVER may come. I have some records, but certainly not 5 years worth!

Given that I haven't "paid" yet and just had a consultation, I can't get much information on just what this lawyer will and will not do!

Any info. will be, as always, much appreciated.

I filed Pro Se but I couldn't see how your lawyer can get papers that are requested...

As far as papers needed for filing I can see them providing that but bank statements, deeds and so forth are all in your name and only you can request them give it to your lawyer and they make sure the proper people receive them.

You probably won't need 5 years worth.

But your lawyer would not be in a position to get YOUR financial records. So the answer is no, your lawyer will not help, because there really is little the lawyer can do to help.

Our lawyer provided everything to the Trustee - but only because we provided it to him first.

When we took our bankruptcy packet home, the first page was a checklist of things to bring back with the packet. Check stubs, mortgage/deed paperwork, car titles, loan contracts, CC bills, tax returns... It was an enormous amount of stuff. I took it all in, and the paralegal kept it to make copies. The copies were scanned onto a computer (we got a copy on disk when we picked up our originals) and emailed to the Trustee before our hearing. At the 341, he was able to pull up all our information on his laptop and we didn't have to bring a thing.

Maybe this isn't standard procedure everywhere, but it sure made sense to me. What in the world am I paying the lawyer for if he can't see to it that my information is sent in? After all, I had to bring it in to get our petition filed. However, a lawyer shouldn't have to hunt down all that stuff on his/her own - it's the debtor's responsibility to come up with it. Still, though, I think once it's been provided to the attorney, the least the attorney can do is provide it to the Trustee.
