Met with our lawyer for the first time and we feel better already!

We had our first face to face meeting with our lawyer yesterday and it did miracles to settle us down. We're in Texas and decided to use a lawyer who is also a Trustee. He took a quick look at the worksheets we filled out and asked some basic questions and told us that we should qualify for CH 7 with no problems. He was also saying we needed to file ASAP so that I wouldn't lose an upcoming real estate commission that I have coming next month (I'm a part time realtor). He also said if I filed my tax return before we filed for BK then they wouldn't touch it. Being that he is a Trustee he knew exactly what to look for. He also knew exactly which documents that the other Trustee would want. We have a few more things to turn in and I'm crossing my fingers that there are no delays. I really want to get this over with! Thanks again for all of the support from this forum.

So glad that your first lawyer visit went so well, HMF! Keep us posted on how your filing goes - hope things go smooth as silk for you!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

Glad to hear it went so well! I didn't realize if you file your income taxes first they can't touch them, is this true?We are formally filing within the month should we do our taxes asap?
