Does the trustee ask for proof of every expense really?

Your trustee will check the types and amounts listed for living expenses on your filed forms. 99.9% of the time, if the expenses are reasonable for your family size and the area you live in and are within the trustee's and the district's acceptable types and amounts for those expenses, nothing else is done.Originally posted by stopthebleeding View PostI am just racking my brain to figure every expense and then find a receipt for it .
However, if some expenses are higher than acceptable, then the trustee may ask for some proof to support the too-high figure. If you can explain it, then the trustee typically moves on. Also the trustee may push back if there are expenses listed that aren't accepted by your trustee or in your district (for ex, a few trustees don't allow pet expenses...unbelievable, I know, but true).
When you file with an experienced bk lawyer, this is one of the most important things he/she can do for you. They ensure that the expenses on your forms when they are filed are all within what the trustee and district allow.Last edited by lrprn; 04-29-2007, 08:17 PM.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
