what will happen to my dog ?

Financial disclosure states I must list worth of pets.

I have a 1 year old pug that I paid $300 for last year as puppy. This little guy of mine has a lot of health issues...and is suspected of having hydrocephali (yes dogs can be born with this).

Stupid financial disclosure states I must list worth of pets. He's worth the world to me, but no breeder / pet store would probably give a dime for him with his health problems. Still I did pay the money to adopt him. Now how do you list this on the financial statement? Anybody been here and done that?

Will I lose my dog to the trustee if he/she thinks there is money to made off of him?

Thanks as always for the advice

Don't flip out!!! My dog is a pure bred puppy (well, 11 months). My atty listed her as $1 (as well as my old cat that has health problems). The only time I'd worry is if your animal is pure bred and it is not spayed/neutered.

A one-year old dog is considered full grown and usually has no monetary value. I have 3 dogs 2 were rescues and one was a one year old great dane. They were worth $0 all together Your dog should have a long happy life with you.

attorney said they dont want my dog

i also have a purebred akc registered english bulldog. i paid $1000.00 for him last may. i put him on our asset list and our attorney took him off. he said they dont want my dog. i guess if specifically asked if i have a dog, i will be honest. he is not nutered either. im not going to volenteer any info though. if push comes to shove, i think i should have the option to buy him back. i was very worried about this too. hes my baby! ive had him since he was 7 weeks old. no matter what i cant lose my dog. but in your situation, i would list the value at $0. if questioned state he has developed health issues. i dont think it would be questioned. and it is honest. my 341 is the 22, so i will try to remember if my dog gets mentioned.

Well I didn't have a pet but on my assets list the lawyer told me to list what I could get for it immediately if I was to sell it in a yard sale or auction. My guess is that in your case with so many issues that the real value of the dog is 0 dollars. I realise that his value to you is much higher than that, but someone else is unlikely to pay money for a dog with so many health issues.

Exactly you list the resale/garage sale values, not replacement values.

We have a purebred registered beagle, 4 cats, fish and lord knows what else...our lawyer listed all of them valued at $50. The trustee will not want your dog, but be prepared as they do frown upon a large monthly expense going out on pets, so you will need to "work" those pet expenses into your own.

Hee! We have six cats and a fish, four duck hens, a bunny and an old lame llama. Value $ 0

(Kinda wish I DID have a 14 year old boy! ;^)

I think they're talking about prize horseflesh and whatnot.

A thirty thousand dollar mare or a hundred thousand dollar stud stallion would be much more interesting to the trustee than old Fluffy or Fido.

                    Don't worry.

How funny is it now that I am thinking about it, that our animals were listed as assets and given a value (although a cheap one) and our poor 9 year old son was left off. Hmmm and he always says we don't own him.

                        Thanks

I appreciate the advice, and feel a little more relieved. I haven't had my pug nuetered yet, but may have the other half drop him off at the vet tomorrow.
I am filing this Friday (as long as my attorney has all my petitions ready).

I don't think a "responsible" breeder would want him for stud with his health problems, but certainly not worth the risk.

Thanks again to you all, and to Goingunder - please let me know how your 341 goes and if they mention the dog. I wish you well.

The only time they would be interested in your pets is if your a "breeder" and buy and sell animals and make a profit off of them......

Family pets (no matter how much they cost) are not even considered.......

Expensive showdogs, horses that are bred or raced, etc is what their looking for.....

So you have nothing to worry about.....................

Smile, give that pet a hug..................

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

                            Thanks Miinnymouth,
I'm not a breeder. Mostly just rescues for me and my other half. My little pug Bogey was the exception as I just really wanted a puppy.

I filed for chapter 7 today, and asked my attorney about him. She said no worries you can keep your pug.

What a relief! I came home and hugged him right away!
