    $100,000+ : Time For Chapter 7?

My heart broke. Literally. Now I have a pacemaker and 100K in hospital bills.

I don't own anything at all, and my income is virtually nil. My live-in love has supported me for two years while I engaged in a non-profit crusade (long story). She has stuff; I don't. We're not married, and have a legal cohabitation agreement stating that she's not responsible for my financial messes.

Question: If I file for Chapter 7, is the judge going to try to link she to me? Surely they'll ask how I've been surviving, and if I say her, is that going to open some sort of legal hell I don't want to get into?

    All thoughts appreciated ...

I should add that the reason I'm considering it -- rather than just throwing away collection letters forever -- is that I do plan on making some money. I'm 36; I have lots of earning to do. I just don't want it all to be gone before I get it ...

Probably not, if you have little or no income, they generally will not go after someone that you have no legal relationship with, but they probably will take a closer look at your situation just to be sure.

Go see an attorney and get yourself out from under that debt, the benefits of filing, in your case, far out way any cons.
