    Any Colorado Lawyer Recommendations?

Thanks to all who answered my post from yesterday about selling jewelry to pay for a BK lawyer!!

I was wondering if there's anyone here who could recommend a good Colorado BK lawyer? I'm not able to go to the courts to check them out, and I'm not sure how to use PACER (any instructions?). I found one who I've only spoken too on the phone that charges $599, but I'm noticing their website everywhere and on Craigslist and in ads in the paper, so I'm worried they might be a BK mill. I'm already stressed out enough, I don't want to end up with someone to whom I'm just a number. Didn't know if anyone hear had a good experience with their Colorado attorney and if they could make any recommendations.

Thanks for your help and support,

    P.S. I'm in the Denver/Boulder area

Forgot to add in my original post this morning that I'm in the Denver/Boulder area, if that helps.

    Thanks again,

I would appreciate the PACER info related to selecting an attorney as well. I registered and started looking around PACER and quickly got lost.

      Thanks

well short of word of mouth recommendations from others who have gone through it in your area, there is no tried and true way to pick out the right attorney, although the BK mill is a good one to avoid. I have found lawyers.com and imputted the data and area and it spits out a list of attorneys who subscribe to that website. It also gives their website address and some information about them. That might help you sort out the good and the bad and the ugly. LOL The only other way is to pick a few and schedule initial free consults and then go with your gut. Pacer will not provide you with attorney recommendations. But it will let you see how many times that attorney has filed a BK for a client. But it costs 8 cents a page and queries for that information can jack up a big bill quick.

There is nothing wrong with a BK Mill per se. After all, if they really were "horrible," eventually they would go out of business or get disbarred. The issue with BK mills is that you don't get personal attention and if your BK has "out of the ordinary" issues, you will be on your own. The benefit to the average debtor is that they get attorney representation in their BK for a relatively affordable price. Don't rule out BK mills simply because it is a mill.

Pacer is an "ok" way of finding an attorney, but remember, you are charged on a per page view basis and unless you actually know what you are looking for, it is neither economical nor informative for selecting a lawyer. Thus, I don't recommend PACER as the "starting" point for an attorney search. PACER may be useful once you already have a few names you are considering and then go in and search for that specific attorney. But again, looking at an attorney's cases really doesn't tell you much about them. About the only useful data you get from PACER is the number of cases that attorney files in a given time frame. But even then, that info isn't that helpful...obviously the BK mills will file the most...but does that make them the best attorney for you? Maybe there is an attorney that files only 10 cases a month and they all get objected too...but perhaps that attorney "specializes" in "problem BK's"...maybe that is the right attorney for you?

If you can't get references from people you know, you can try Martindale Hubble and look for AV rated attorney's. But eventually, you are going to have to pound the pavement and talk to 2-4 attorneys

            HHM,

Thanks for the info. Only 1 of the 4 I'm interviewing had a Hubble rating and it was BV. This was the guy I liked the least so far.

            Thanks

Martindale Hubble is just a starting point. And frankly, it is not my favorite source...but I only mention it because it will give you some names of attorney's who practice BK in your area.

The reputation ratings in Martindale are a bit of a farce. They are based off of surveys that MH sends out to attorney's in the local area. Most attorney's don't bother to respond to the survey and the ones that do are usually giving good ratings to their friends.
