    Relative thinking of filing

One of our relatives is thinking of filing next month.
Told them all we know. They had a question about the UST we couldn't answer. Does the United States trustee review all petitions, schedules etc when a person files?
WE thought they were obligated too, or maybe they just leave that to the regular trustee. But isn't the UST the one who reviews for abuse and other fraudulent things after you file? Right or Wrong?

No, that's the job of local trustees. Local trustees work under the US Trustee Program. The US trustees will get involved in complex cases or where fraud or misrepresentation is suspected.

Local trustees are the front-line defense for detecting bk fraud. The US trustees will definitely get involved in cases where bk fraud is suspected. They also will take a close look at cases where Ch 7 or Ch 13 filers have high incomes or high-value assets.

According to the US Trustee Program's website at http://www.usdoj.gov/ust/ -
