You don't have to list a credit card when you file *IF* the balance is zero.Originally posted by howie789 View PostI plan on discharging four credit cards out of five-- the fifth one I would like to keep- I have always been on time with them..I have to list them on the schedule as a debt obviously..will they let me keep the card..when will they let me know..I would really like to keep it on hand and just in case..
However, I hate to burst your bubble, but it's very unlikely even if you don't list the card that it will remain active after you file. The big credit card companies share a database and one of the things in that database is a list of who files bankruptcy. As soon as your credit card company sees that you filed, they are very likely going to cancel your card, no matter how long you've been with them and even if the balance is zero.
This is a good time to see if you can live without credit. Get your budget together now and see where you stand. Try a 'cash and carry' lifestyle for a few months keeping track of eveything you spend. It's very illuminating!
Credit cards make it way too easy to mask spending....that's how many of us ended up here.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
