Chap 7 - Finally filed!

Woohoo! Finally went and signed the papers on Wednesday! I was supposed to file on my own over a year ago, then I got married and it kept getting pushed off and pushed off, met with a lawyer, took 8 months to come up with the money to pay him, but we're finally in!

341 is on Dec 18, the day after my birthday!

Its going to be so nice to be done with this whole process and be able to move on! Already have a credit report monitoring program going, so it will be interesting to see how the bk effects my scores!

Thanks for everyone's help and support and great information! Without this website, I would've been over my head for a loooong time!

Don't count the chickens before they're hatched. You only filed.....does not mean anything. 341 hearing still to come, and of course the 60 day period after that hearing. - But at least now creditors/collection goons cannot legally hassle you anymore.

After trying to get this bk going for the last 12-18 months, just filing along is a big accomplishment for me... neither us or our lawyer is the least bit worried. None of the bills have been paid or cards used in over a year and we're half of the allowed income limit for my family size. We didn't even end up using half of our allowable exemptions!

Having just checked Pacer, the trustee determined no assets and the status is already saying "Waiting for Discharge". That was done the day after we file

I agree filing is a big step BIG.. I like JBR have been trying to file for months and getting step backs and other stuff. Our case is simple also with us being some far under median (40-50k) for our family size and having no property and being honestly broke I think things will work in our favor.

Hey, jbr12, congrats on finally filing. Our "60 day club" membership will overlap. My wife and I filed 2 days ago, and our 341 is scheduled for Dec. 10th! Good luck to you (and us!)!

341 went smooth as butter today! Our little girls (2 years & 6 weeks) even did great during the meeting! The trustee seemed worried about the amount of my student loans... I wish he felt worried enough about them to discharge them! :P

Uh-ohs. I have student loans too. What do you mean by "worried". Do you mind me asking how much is left on yours? I had about $40K in student loans and I paid it down to $5,500. I've stayed on time with those payments because I was told they wouldn't be discharged anyways.

To me it was more he seemed worried in a fatherly sort of way.... Like 'you have a lot of student loans, I hope you can eventually pay those off'. Wasn't a bad thing that was going to effect my case. I think he was just making a general observation

Just waiting on the final discharge now!

Woohoo! I have been checking PACER daily since the 18th and finally got the good news last night! Officially discharged! WOOOHOOO!!!

Thanks for all your advice and help everyone! The amount of knowledge I gained from this site was amazing and it helped me convince my wife that this was something we had to do
