Anyone had any trouble getting utilities or DirectTV....

We are getting ready to move into a new rental in Florida and are a little worried if we can actually get denied electricity, phone, trash, and water? We used to have Direct TV, but I've heard that they deny you if you have bad credit. I know that this sounds absurd, but it's a concern for us. We have not filed BK yet, we're about 3 months late though on everything including mortgage, but have never had a 30 day late on any utilities.

    Any insight would be great.

    Thanks.

i plan to move and just transferred my utilities to the new address and there was no problems in spite of my current credit situation. you can schedule your move ahead of time..before your credit takes a big hit.

I can't transfer my utilities as we're moving from another state to FL. I figured Direct TV would do something like that....that is very laughable. I assume maybe we could at least get cable through a local cable company. Anyone know though if electric, phone and water/trash can deny you service with bad credit? That's our major concern...TV I can live without if needed.....

at least they work with you on the deposit...I know that electric asks for a big deposit, we're ready for that. But the phone, I just signed up for Vonage and they didn't ask for my ssn at all. So I guess we're okay there. Bellsouth is the phone company there, but I'd just as well go with Vonage - cheaper anyway. Thanks for all of your input!

We moved about 3 months prior to filing with 5-6 months of "Lates" showing on CC's and our mortgage.

Fortunately, we just had to transfer the Cable so there was no credit pull there.

Gas, Elec, Water, and Sewer were a different story. Out of those, Elec was the only one that required a Security Deposit. All the rest said, "We can see you've had service in your name in the past and paid on time." They did not require a deposit of any kind. The Elec Co actually pulled our Credit.

The Elec Security Deposit was equal to 2 months of billing at our condo. Based on previous tenants usage. Refundable/Credited on our bill after 12 months of on time payments.

I signed up for direct tv during my 13 and had no problem. I signed up for dishnetwork at a friends house for them and they also did not ask for deposit

Has anybody considered that cable, DTV , and Dish TV are consicered luxurious expenditures by many people? Spending on things we do not need, but still want is the reason that most us are reading postings in this forum.

I dont know about direct TV but when we signed up for Dish Network we had to supply a credit card as backup in case we did not pay!! They charged the initial payment to the card the credited us back the amount over six months.
Dish is cheap for the basic set up. $19.99 a month for up to two TV'S. The trustees in NJ allow much more than that for TV. I think up to $75 a month. W/o cable or a dish you will get no TV reception. We tried a big antenna w/no go. My family is all experienced ham radio/CB hobbiest too and we still could not get the TV antenna to pick up anything more than PBS clearly.
