"Progressive" buildings might even have on-site day-care centers for children of the employees in that building. Find out, and slip the kids' supervisors a few bucks to watch your kids while you're at the hearing.

Are you kidding me? What horrible advice sticking your children with someone you don't even know.... and who has a few bucks to slip anyone - I hope you were joking - obviously someone that doesn't have kids

A huge part of my whole situation is because of me being unable to work and afford daycare - or sitters for that matter - the only time the trustee acknowledged me was when she asked about our drop in incomes, and went "oh, I see" when she saw me holding our daugther(we had to do a declaration statement of what happened in our case). I thought it sent the message "I am broke! Hello - don't have any help here!!!"

Don't worry about it, bring them and that's that.

Yeah, I basically ignored that bit of advice. I don't have a few bucks to slip anyone and even if I did I'm not leaving my toddler in the hands of a perfect stranger. Not for 2 hours or 5 minutes. I'm broke, but the care and well being of my baby is paramount to anything else.

I think based on the responses here and the fact that she's possibly one of the most mellow kids you've ever met, I'll just bring her and stop stressing about it.

ETA: And honestly, any licensed daycare center who accepts a bribe to watch another child that might very well put them over staffing limits or whatever else is not a place I'd leave my kid. And would probably in fact call the state's licensing board and have them do a little audit.
