Got my discharge today! Very happy but still a little confused

I got the discharge today, about 67 days after my 341.

Needless to say, I'm quite happy about it, but I still do have some questions. The discharge is granted but the case isn't dismissed yet. What does that mean? Is there more that I have to do, or is it just a matter of waiting for the dismissal. If so, how long till the dismissal, more or less?

Also, can I start rebuilding my credit right away, or do I have to wait for the dismissal. What is the best thing to do to start rebuilding?

Thanks in advance for the info.

I think you mean Discharged but not Closed??

Dismissed is not a thing you want. Dismissed would mean your debts would not be Discharged and that's not what you want.

Closed is when your Case is Officially done. How long that takes depends.

Were you an Asset Case?? If not, then your Court may simply have a waiting period. Some Courts Discharge and Close the same day. Some wait a week or so in between. Our Court has a mandatory 30 day waiting period between the time of Last Posting and Close.

Discharge is the main important thing for you. You can start working on rebuilding now. Maybe sign up with a Credit Monitoring Service. Check your Credit Reports. See if all you accts are reporting correctly. Dispute the ones that aren't.

Do clean up on your Credit first before applying for new Credit.

are you talking about your case being closed? (not dismissed) In most cases, if no asset, closing will come soon after discharge.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on my original post. I do believe that I mean "closed" and not "dismissed". However, the wording of the letter is what confused me.

Here is the part that was confusing to me, maybe someone can help me sort it out.

"This court order grants a discharge to the person named as debtor. It is not a dismissal of the case and it does not determine how much money, if any, the trustee will pay to creditors".

Thanks again for the help, and sorry for the confusion.

That IS a discharge.....that's what you want, NOT a dismissal.

          Congrats!

It sounds like your trustee may be considering whether to close your case now or later.

Could your trustee be hoping you will have a sizeable tax refund coming next spring for this year? If your closing is delayed, that might be the reason - it's happened to members here before, including one of our moderators, SinkingFast.

If you filed with a lawyer, I would ask his/her opinion about this.
