    Bankruptcy concerns

Hello to all of you out there that know exactly what I am going through and thanks for the support.

I am about a week away from my meeting of creditors (341 meeting) and I have a lot of thoughts running through my head. Very quickly a little over a year ago now my wife left me. I was left with the majority of the bills and very depressed. I had previous credit card debt but always tried to pay minimum on all and only started getting behind toward the end when things got tough. My folly is about a month or so after she left I purchased a laptop through a circuit city credit (chase) and a few other things later on. I continued to pay on it up to the point where things became more than I could handle and after talking to two debt consolidation people I felt that my only chance was bankruptcy. I stopped paying on all my credit cards including the circuit city one at the behest of my attorney. This was a little over a month after my last purchase. However I did not file bankruptcy until four months later (had to pay the attorney fees). My concern is that Chase has sent a reaffirmation agreement to my attorney. My attorney has said not to take it but what happens if they show up? What if they contest? I know it looks bad that I used it and then filed bankruptcy but truthfully I was just depressed and distraught (no excuse to some perhaps but was horrible for me) and I was looking for happiness in material things. If I do not take the agreement and they contest, what options do I have? I am moving soon and my rent is much more at my new place. I can not afford legal fees and/or a large repayment plan. My attorney says I can repay what I owe at street value if I need to but this leaves me confused. Will I have to pay all at once or is it on a payment plan? Sorry if this screams of desperation but answers are hard to come by and I like to know what I am in for. Thanks for anything anyone can provide!

Dont worry about circuit city, just ignore them. They may try to bluff you into certain things but in the end they will not act. Your lap top is not worth thier time to repo.

best case they do nothing.....worst case, they ask for their laptop back....either way, no big deal

after discharge, in order to take away your laptop, they must file a Writ of Replevin (which costs way more money than your laptop is worth) Ignore Chase. And if they call you tell them when you see the Writ of Replevin in hand, they can have their measly laptop.

thanks for the replies. I sent a letter to my attorney addressing the same concerns as I posted here but knowing what to expect helps prepare. Accept the worst and hope for the best. THANKS for the info and the advice. Going to deal with it as it unfold.

if they take your laptop just go to rent a center or something to get another one, no big problem, material possesions can always be replaced. unless you have assets like it do, then its tough.

Had my 341 meeting today and honestly I was shocked that no creditors came. I did get another reaffirmation statement from Chase (circuit city) just yesterday and really figured they would be there. No issues arose during the meeting, very relaxed and almost amusing atmosphere. (the Trustee was even making jokes and small talk) Afterwards my attorney pulled me aside and said its basically a 60 waiting game but that out of 16 reasons the creditors would have to object I don't fit in any of them. I signed up for Pacer and will have that info soon. My biggest concern now, in the waiting game, is to see if Chase will object because I have heard they are real pains sometimes. Again though thanks to all of you and good luck to those of you filing and playing the waiting game with me.

Aw! I feel for you on the spouse leaving you with the bills! My ex husband did that to me. At one point I stopped paying his credit cards and on his motorcycle, I forwarded the bills to his girlfriend. Chase may be really busy right now, I think they may be going after really big fish.
