Hello to all of you out there that know exactly what I am going through and thanks for the support.
I am about a week away from my meeting of creditors (341 meeting) and I have a lot of thoughts running through my head. Very quickly a little over a year ago now my wife left me. I was left with the majority of the bills and very depressed. I had previous credit card debt but always tried to pay minimum on all and only started getting behind toward the end when things got tough. My folly is about a month or so after she left I purchased a laptop through a circuit city credit (chase) and a few other things later on. I continued to pay on it up to the point where things became more than I could handle and after talking to two debt consolidation people I felt that my only chance was bankruptcy. I stopped paying on all my credit cards including the circuit city one at the behest of my attorney. This was a little over a month after my last purchase. However I did not file bankruptcy until four months later (had to pay the attorney fees). My concern is that Chase has sent a reaffirmation agreement to my attorney. My attorney has said not to take it but what happens if they show up? What if they contest? I know it looks bad that I used it and then filed bankruptcy but truthfully I was just depressed and distraught (no excuse to some perhaps but was horrible for me) and I was looking for happiness in material things. If I do not take the agreement and they contest, what options do I have? I am moving soon and my rent is much more at my new place. I can not afford legal fees and/or a large repayment plan. My attorney says I can repay what I owe at street value if I need to but this leaves me confused. Will I have to pay all at once or is it on a payment plan? Sorry if this screams of desperation but answers are hard to come by and I like to know what I am in for. Thanks for anything anyone can provide!
