If your state does credit profiling (many still do, some have banned it), your can bet that when your insurance comes up for renewal, they will pull your credit reports and raise your rates. It also depends on how long you have been with them and your record with them how high they will be raised. If your state does not do credit profiling, you are safe and if they still should raise your rates due to your BK filing, contact the Department of Insurance in your State.

I asked Geico if the rates go up for Bk or reposession, and they said no. My rates are based on my age/gender/ other stats probably, years as a good driver, and the type of car I have (I guess for replacement costs).

Some insurance companies pull your credit and others don't. Most don't pull your credit at renewal if you've never given them a reason to, like had an accident etc.

Gieco pulls your credit. NEVER tell them, once your in with them, that you had a repo or suggest to them your credit is less than perfect! They could easily reunderwrite you, pull your credit again, and raise your rate based on your credit report.

What you did is similar to people who get a ticket and then call the ins company to ask if that ticket will raise their rate. NEVER offer any information to the ins company!

I have auto and life ins with them and they've never said boo. Like I said they don't usually pull your credit once in your in with them unless there's been a large claim of some sort.

I know someone who filed BK twice 10 years apart while having State Farm for auto ins and State Farm didn't do anything about it.

                    Thank goodness!

We've been with State Farm FOREVER, even have a 20+ year discount with them. It's nice to know that we won't have a problem.

It doesn't matter who your insurance company is, if the state in which you reside allows credit profiling, that insurance company will pull your credit report annually at the time of renewal and will raise your rates at bad credit or BK on your reports. If your state has done away with credit profiling (ours did this past January - contact your Department of Insurance in your state to check), insurance companies cannot raise your rates due to information on your credit report. It's as simple as that. If you think they raised your rates due to you filing BK or having bad credit and your state does not allow credit profiling, contact your state Department of Insurance and report them.

I have Am Fam and they lets say they arw about as fast as molasses in mid January in Minnesota. They sent me a letter that they are rasining my rates because my wife filed CH7 3 years ago. I got the letter just a few weeks ago and needless to say I wrote them back questioning their timeliness of the letter. Despite my wfie has NEVER had a moving violation one would think they could adjust the difference.
I am looking at State Farm for quotes.

How does one correlate bad credit to bad driving? I personally want to see driving statistics of those who filed CH13 and CH7 vs the high school senior. Then again, I would like to see the statistics period!

I also have Progressive. I filed on 12.10.07, it was on my credit reports immediately after. Did not make any difference on my policy renewal on 01.30.08, rate was the same. I read somewhere on Progressive's website that they only pull credit every 3 years.
