    credit offer already????

    Hey all,

Something strange happened to me this week. We had our 341 hearing on May 2nd and in the mail on May 5th was a pre approved credit card offer for me with a 1,000.00 credit limit. Is that normal to recieve these offers so soon. Reading the posts on this site I knew we would get offers but I thought later on down the road. I am not taking the offer up yet because we have been living without credit for about a year. But I just can't believe it. I think is was a Visa from Bank One.Any input will be nice.Thanks......chaz.

Bank One does not exist anymore. Chase bought them out long ago. Maybe Cap 1?

We started getting offers about a week after we filed. It's crazy! I just shred them because I am not going to get myself if the same situation I was in prior to filing. I am finally getting my budget worked out and am learning to manage my money; it is too soon to trust myself with a credit card.

That's because creditors obtain discharge information as cases are discharged by the BK court (whether Chapter 13 or 7). It's public information and available to anyone who wants it. Since you are now debt free, every auto and refinance place under the sun in your area will send you something (even ones you probably never heard of) and the credit card offers will start also - most for secured cards or banks like Aspire, charging rediculous fees user and annual fees and high percentages. We were bombarded for months after our discharge for all sorts of offers that we just shredded. Some were outright predatory lending as we were discharged in 8/06.

Be savvy and smart - they are out to make money off of you at a time when you are vulnerable and can easily get into trouble again. Think long-term....do you really need a card or a loan "right now?"

While the offers do come in, keep in mind until your discharge you need the approval of the trustee of the bankruptcy estate to take on any new debt. This is very important to remember.
