Mortgage Still Showing on Credit Report After Discharge

The bank won't close out my account and is keeping the balance of my loan on my credit report. All the other accounts have 0 zeroed out except for my mortage. They said it will stay that way until they foreclose or I short sale it. I think it is also dragging down my FICO score, not that it isn't completely injured already but anything helps. They put discharged chap. 7 but the amount owed is still there. I content that if the debt has been discharged it should say 0 since I technically don't owe that money anymore. They say no. The home hasn't foreclosed so it will stay that way. I am still fighting to get it zeroed out. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks....

We are not discharged yet, but on our credit report, our 1st mortgage says discharged due to BK. Although our 2nd mortgage is still on our report.

    Not sure if this helps.

We were discharged on 3-25-08. We too were having trouble getting the CRA to report our mortgages in bk correctly. Eqifax is still reporting our 2nd mortgage as open with a balance on my husbands report. Eqifax fixed the error pn my report. It is the second request to show the mortgage as in BK with a zero balance. Our first mortgage is reported correctly. Eqifax is the only one I am having a problem with. But it was fixed by the other cra's.So the having to have the house sold or gone thru the forclosure process it not true. Ours is still empty & unsold.Good Luck

The bank is correct, until the foreclosure is complete, the lien still has a balance because the house is still in your name, and the lien survives the BK.
