    When is it "over"

When is a Ch7 case over? I mean after 341 hearing & discharge. Is discharge the end?

Discharge is the end as far as the debtor is concerned. If there are no assets being sold and payments being distributed to creditors, closing usually happens soon after. In an asset case (like mine), closing can happen a year or more after discharge.

I just found out a friend had filed chapter 7 back in 1996. They had a pending lawsuit from a serious car accident. The lawsuit didnt pay out until 1999 at that time the Trustee reopened the case. It was finally closed in 2003!!!

From 1996 on though there was nothing else needed from this friend. No court appearances or anything. Amazing what Pacer can tell a person as she had no idea.
      5/29 Filed 7~ 341-on 6/24
      8/27-DISCHARGED
      11/2 - CLOSED
      EQ-604 EX-605 TU-560 ~4.5 months after discharge

When you are discharged you are done. The case may stay open if assets are to be distributed and then the case will be closed after that and it can take months for that to happen but as far as the debtor discharge is the important time.
May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer
        July 2nd, 2007: 341 Meeting Held
September 4th, 2007: Discharged and Closed.
