Discharged But?

Hi all. Just a quick question. Daughter's BK7 finally discharged but isn't "closed" . Is this usual? We're doing a "semi" happy dance over the discharge but are concerned that something could go wrong before it's closed? She filed 1/4/08 so this has been a long drawn out process and we just want it to be completely done for her so she can get on with her life.

Closed is referring to having all the paperwork done. Unless she was an asset case closure usually follows dismissal almost immediately. If she had an asset then it takes slightly longer to administer the case. She could call the clerk of court or her attorney to find out what is holding up the closure. It very well may be that they are just over run with BK cases right now. Generally after the discharge you are pretty much done.

From everything I have read here it seems that being discharged is what matters the most.

Discharge is the important thing. Closing the case is just an administration function. Some districts only close once a week or month. So long as you got the discharge you can do the happy dance

Thanks for your responses. I am one real happy mom! This whole process was so hard for my daughter that it just broke my heart. This has been a huge learning process for her (and me). She can now get on with her life (and so can I).

There have been people on here close the same day as discharge and close months after. Discharge is all you really need to worry about. Another thing that varies greatly from district to district. Dragonnfly

Just a quick update on my daughter's bk7. It's official, it CLOSED TODAY.
I'm so relieved I could just cry. Thank you a million times to everyone on this forum, I learned so much for you all.
