If you really want to find out, you can probably do a title search online at the county recorders office and see if the person you are dealing with is the actual owner. (but, if this person was able to actually show you around place, you are probably good to go).

HHM--I wanted to let you know I was able to locate the owner's name today on the county site (I had the spelling wrong before). Thanks again for this great advice--it really made me feel better!
