    Received discharge - Now what?

Discharged June 20 - Should I be checking my credit report and getting my score? I am confused on where to do that. Don't you have to buy a service that monitors credit and reports your credit score to you? WOuld this be a good idea? I am curious but maybe not enough to pay for it. I used my free credit report back in December or January when we were getting ready to file. I have no plans to apply for credit but should I be watching my credit report to make sure everything shows up as discharged? Please offer me some advice on the best and cheapest way to do what I should. Thanks!
If there is a thread or sticky somewhere please direct me - I am sure this has been covered but I just looked around and couldn't find anything except advice on getting new credit - which I do NOT want. We are happily living on cash and building an emergency fund and have family to go to in the event of a huge catastrophe.

There is a ton of discussion on here about obtaining credit reports before or after discharge. There is so much advice that it basically comes down to what you want to do personally. Most posters are in agreement that it is best to wait a few months after discharge for all your information (or most of it) to be reported by creditors as to your BK on your reports and then go from there. It can be a long process disputing all the items you may find that are incorrect and it can take a while to get things cleaned up.

If you do a search on here for items such as "credit reports after discharge" or "credit report cleanup" or something along those lines, there are myriads of postings for you to decide what you want to do.

In my opinion all those credit cards and loan offers and maintaining good credit are what got most of us in the fix we're in. I am one to believe the creditors are just as guilty as us as they do tonns of research and know exactly what incomes to target and who is most likely to accept. I view creditors like ambulance chasing attorneys.

I am within about a month from being discharged, hopefully, and as far as I'm concerned the credit card companies can stick any idea of offering me credit now or in the future where the sun don't shine. Never again. I'm living off cash and begging. So I couldn't care less what my credit score is or will ever be again.

In the After The Discharge section of the forum, and then under Rebuilding Credit section, you'll find a few Sticky's about cleaning up your credit and another Sticky about your credit scores. There are also several threads about rebuilding credit in general. It's going to be a lot to read, but it's very informative.

My thoughts exactly. Credit is what put us here and if anything I have learned credit is to easily abused. So like you, I really don't care what our credit score is after this. Someday maybe I'll care again, but for now and for the immediate future, all I want is cash purchases. If we don't have that cash, we'll wait. If something breaks, we live without, until we have the cash to fix it. That's how people used to live and our country and they were much better off then we all are now!

I will look for those stickies. I totally agree we are all better living off cash - it is such a great feeling now to be able to do that and be making sacrifices to do that! I cannot believe how many credit card offers I am getting everyday! They go straight to the trash!!
I do care about my credit score/ in terms of making sure everything that was supposed to be discharged actually is- after all we have put ourselves through. I'm sure not going to le one of the credit card company's continue to screw us after going through BK! I have no intention of getting any kind of credit card or loan for a very long time - but one day I will most likely need to finance a car and want to make sure my credit is what is should be. Anyway - I'll keep searching threads!
