Hello everyone.I just retained a lawyer for chapter 7.My situation is sort of bleak as since December work has trailed off to almost nothing.I took out a CitiFinancial unsecured loan around november of 2007 and made 6 months of payments. When I took out the loan my credit was a-1 and I had never been late on any credit cards or anything and work and money not a problem. Two months ago I let them know I was struggling and they refinanced my loan and dropped a couple points , gave me 99.00 dollars and 30 days without a payment.Since then I just have not been able to pay.The loan is $7,000.Will I have any problems getting this loan wipped clean? My lawyer basically just took the retainer fee and gave me a list of things to bring to her.She did answer any questions I had but I had a lot of questions and forgot to ask some questions as this is nerve racking.I called her today but she is in court so decieded to ask here as I have been looking here for a couple of weeks as there is some good info here. Thanks for any help in advance.

That's kind of scary that your lawyer didn't go over the "process" with you! I understand you were nervous, but she should have taken the time. How much of a retainer did you put down? Are you comfortable with her? I would interview with other attorneys before you move foward.

I trust the lawyer as I have dealt with her for years as I Install and maintain business telephone systems and she is one of our clients.I am still employed but working maybe 1 to 2 days a week.I gave Her a $500 retainer. She will not file the bk though untill Her fee is paid because as she says she has been burned before.I was a little disappointed about Her not filing for me right away do to Her being a client but it is business and we do not give her a break when she calls us.I do feel she is a comeptent lawyer.Last edited by opus007; 07-10-2008, 02:51 PM.

citifinancial is dischargable. no problem. Also what a lot of people don't realize is you are already a credit risk when you accept a citifinancial offer. Reason is they target people who are borderline as far as credit score and/or income to debt ratio. I've been told by banks when they check the credit record they look for citifinancial and a red flag goes up when a person has them on their credit report.
