once a trustee has collected funds to pay creditors and has dispersed funds to all who have responded to notice of claims, am i supposed to get all the money that is left over returned to me?
I think you only get the value of what you are able to exempt. If you have a car paid in full valued and sold or auctioned for $7000 the trustee will pay $5000 to your unsecured creditors and write you a check for $2500 since this is you exemption. The actual exemption varies from state to state. Yours maybe more or less then $2500. If creditors didn't file a claim I'm not sure what happens. Actually they give a bigger portion to those that did file the claim if I'm not mistaking. Either way you are only entitled to the exempt portion.
