    Credit Cards

I am helping someone else with filing a ch 7.

They do not want to be fraudulant. They wish to file ch 7 soon. They also wish to charge $500 on their credit card before filing for a semi-educational class at a near by business. Should they make a payment before filing to show inent?

If they do charge it how long should they wait to file? Can they keep that credit card? it would have $1700 on it when it files. Is it possible? Has any one had exprience with keeping a CC through BK?

Another concern of thiers. They have about $1000 in medical debt. They wish to pay it as they have ongoing care under thier employee medical coverage. They are not looking to discharge it, but I suggested they are required to list it as a debt.

    What should they do?

Umm, your filing your own BK and helping someone else?

Please try to consolidate your posts to some degree.

Yes I am helping an older relative.

I will consolidate posts. Though it would be easier for other to search if I kept post by topic.

Let me get this right, this person is filing bk but they want to add 500 to the card that they are filing on? Bad idea, dont do it. As for keeping the card, I would think that would raise eyebrows with the trustee. As for the medical debt the fact that this person has ongoing problems might be a good excuse to keep that account. But you definately dont want to add 500 to a card this close to filing.

Well they want to keep this card as well, to use for buying supplements and prescriptions. They are filing to remove a judgement and some chargeoffs. from other debt. Ideally they want to keep the medical debt and the credit card through bankruptcy. So would they just reaffirm both?

From what I've read, if it has a $0 balance sometimes you can leave it off - but I'm thinking a $500 pay off right after purchase is sending the wrong message and could get you in a lot of trouble.

I would suggest coming up with it in cash - if you need to register w/a credit card, use a check card. Otherwise, make the purchase and seek bankruptcy in about 4 months.
